The Freedom Run 5K, held every July 4th, started in 1982 when an unexpected 686 people turned out for the event which was then part of Evergreen’s Summerfest. Now the race has become an annual tradition for the mountain area, drawing nearly 1,200 participants in 2007. See this year's results.
Funds raised by the Freedom Run 5K will help Mt. Evans care for underinsured or uninsured patients as well as support numerous services provided by Mt. Evans, including grief counseling, transportation for patients to medical appointments, respite care for family caregivers, and Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children.
