Charley Shimanski

Charley Shimanski

Charley Shimanski joined Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice in October, 2015.  An advocate for underserved and vulnerable populations, Shimanski has more than 20 years experience in nonprofit leadership and management.

Shimanski worked in Washington DC for the past 5 years, including serving as the American Red Cross Senior Vice President of Disaster Services.  In this role, Shimanski led a team of 130 dedicated staff and 66,000 registered volunteers providing disaster response throughout the United States.  Among his responsibilities Shimanski spearheaded the Red Cross nursing program, and was part of the leadership in the Red Cross response to Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the largest hurricane ever measured in the Northern Atlantic.

The Red Cross’ principal spokesperson to the President of the United States, U.S. Congress, White House, Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Shimanski also served on the Public Policy Committee for the Independent Sector, focusing on policy issues that affect the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.  As a public policy advocate, Mr. Shimanski has worked with U.S. elected officials on federal funding initiatives, has served on a United States Senate panel, and testified before countless legislative committees on important policy matters.

An advocate for underserved and vulnerable populations, Mr. Shimanski also served as President & CEO of the Colorado Nonprofit Association from 2004-2008, growing the organization’s impact in service to Colorado’s 19,000 nonprofit organizations.

In his media work, Mr. Shimanski has appeared on NBC Nightly News, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, BBC World News and CNN and in USA Today, The Washington Post, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, People, Sports Illustrated, The Christian Science Monitor, and National Geographic Adventure.

An Evergreen resident since 1994, Mr. Shimanski is a 27-year veteran of The Alpine Rescue Team, and Past President of the Mountain Rescue Association.  A former volunteer flight medic with Flight for Life, he has participated on hundreds of mountain rescue operations and serves as a frequent speaker at national and international rescue conferences.
